DPS VELOCITY Off-line Editing

DPS VELOCITY off-line editing becomes very crucial in post-production. Hi-def resolution, precise editing, high efficiency and other features have been widely accepted by professionals. DPS-Velocity provides powerful performance, best working environment, and quick and efficient results.

Excalibur Digital Conforming System

MODERN uses Excalibur editing software specially made for conforming films; it' s the perfect model among the peers. Excalibur system can track down and maintain the precise connection between film, video and sound, and provide the original frame of image and sound.

Editing on Film; Finish on Film
The traditional editing starts with printing the keycode of original negatives on the workprints. After complete editing, we locate the keycode of every cut from the finished edit on the workprint to identify the frame from the original negative. Then we edit the cut from the negatives according to the edited version on workprint. The whole process is handmade. The negative cutter has to list out all the keycodes on each roll of negative and he always consumes a long time to search out all the keycodes on the workprints.

Editing on Digital; Finish on Film
When we edit offline on video, we don't need the workprints. When negative is transferred into tape, the keycode will not come with it. Instead, a new timecode is recorded on the tape to distinguish each image. When the editor finishes editing, his edited result will be recorded on EDL (Edit Decision List), showing the timecode for each chosen shot.

After offline editing, we cut and conform the negative. Excalibur's database will automatically interchange the timecode and the keycode. Through keycode, we distinguish the right frame from negative and make an accurate edit decision, until we finish conform the negative.

Excalibur plays three important roles in post-production

  • Excalibur uses keycode code reader or the recorded Telecine files to automatically build up a database for negative keycode. It can be done in very quick fashion. The process shortens the time and cost wasted in the traditional negative conforming and avoids the possible handwriting mistakes the traditional negative conforming might occur.
  • Excalibur' s database will automatically interchange the timecode and the keycodes. Through a keycode, we distinguish the right frame of negative and make an edit decision.
  • Excalibur can track down every shot in every roll of negative by using the precision and speed of the computer system to replace the handwritten record.
